International students usually consider a student residence or dormitory, a room in a shared flat, a private apartment, or short-term accommodation while they secure a longer arrangement. Each option balances independence, privacy, travel time, shared facilities and responsibility differently.
Student residence
A structured option with shared facilities, house rules and limited availability.
Shared flat
More independence while sharing common space, bills and household responsibilities.
Private apartment
Greater privacy, usually with more responsibility for the contract, utilities and setup.
Short-term arrival stay
A temporary base only; confirm whether it can support any required immigration documentation.
Check before you commit
Do not assess accommodation from photographs alone. Read the agreement and confirm exactly who is providing the room, what you are paying for and what happens if dates or circumstances change.

- Deposit, payment schedule and refund conditions

Accommodation and immigration documents
For many long-term visa or residence applications, accommodation evidence must meet official requirements. A booking email or informal message may not be sufficient. The required form and signature depend on the provider and the application route.
Avoid common rental problems
Be cautious with rushed payment requests, unclear ownership, missing contracts or offers that cannot be verified. Keep written records and receipts, confirm the payment recipient matches the agreement, and document the room condition at check-in.
